LETICIA A. MARTINEZ
December 15, 1953 - September 19, 2016

A beloved educator, sister, friend, cousin, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother was called by the Lord. She will be deeply missed by the hundreds upon hundreds of students she taught in the third grade during her 39 years at the Francisco Farias Elementary with the Laredo Independent School District. She earned her bachelor's degree at Texas A&I at Laredo. She received the Golden Apple Award and was named in Who's Who among American School Teachers. Leticia enjoyed arts and crafts, ceramics, baking, cooking, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernando S. Vela and Herlinda Gutierrez Vela; as well as by her brother, Eduardo X. Vela.

Leticia is survived by her husband, Felipe Martinez; children, Felipe (Sara Alicia) Martinez Jr., Fernando Rafael Martinez, Melissa Marie Martinez; grandchildren, Felipe Martinez III, Alexander J. Martinez; her brother, Fernando (Hilda) S. Vela Jr.; sister in law, Martha Vela; and aunt, Graciela Gutierrez. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Mrs. Juanita Puente, Dr. Milton Haber, Dr. Eduardo Miranda, Dr. Edward Kost, Nurses on Wheels staff, Brightstar nurses, and Father Hector Flores.

A Vigil and Rosary for Leticia will be recited at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, the 24th of September 2016 at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church with a Mass following immediately after at 9:30 a.m.

At the family's request please do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to Sacred Heart Children's Home, 3310 S. Zapata Hwy, Laredo, Texas 78046.
