Leticia Nora Black was called home by the Lord on July 30, 2015. She went peacefully into his arms at the Laredo Medical Center at the young age of 60. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Cantu and Sylvia E. Gonzalez. Nora is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Robert L. Black, Jr.; daughters, Lindsey Black and Kasey (Joe) Gallardo, III; granddaughters, Madisyn R. Black, Kalena J. Gallardo, Kyrah J. Gallardo, and Kaelynda J. Gallardo; mother-in-law, Bess (Carlos) Carranco; and brother-in-law, Alan (Jeanette) Black. Nora was born on November 30, 1954 in Laredo, Texas to Oscar and Sylvia Cantu. She graduated from Mirando City High School in 1972 and continued her education at Laredo Junior College and Laredo State University where she earned degrees in elementary education, bi-lingual education, and mid-management. She married her high school sweetheart and dedicated the next 34 years to educating the children in the Mirando City, Oilton, and Bruni area. She had many accomplishments over the years and touched many students' lives with her caring attitude and smile she wore all the time. Her most prized accomplishment was when the Oilton Elementary Campus, where she was the principal, earned the National Blue Ribbon Campus award and was recognized by the President of the United States. She retired in 2007 and shifted her focus to her animals and garden which she loved dearly. The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to all the physicians and staff at LMC who cared for her the final two weeks of her life as she battled pancreatic cancer.
