LEONOR “NONO” R. VÁZQUEZ

December 27, 1931 - May 21, 2023

Leonor “Nono” R. Vázquez was called Home to join our Lord in Heaven on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at age 91.

She was born in Laredo to parents Virginia P. Rodríguez and Marcelino S. Rodríguez on December 27, 1931 and married Jorge Vázquez on October 1955. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and beloved friend. Nono was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremy M. Vázquez; her son, Jorge Vázquez Jr., and her husband, Jorge Vázquez Sr.

Left to cherish her memory forever, are son, Ricky (Elisabeth) Vázquez and daughter, Nonie Vázquez (Cecilia Hendrix); Grandchildren, Jonathan, Anthony, Jordan, Alex, and Jorge III (Estefani Aguilera); great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Kali, Sebastian, Hunter, Mia & Deci; along with other numerous relatives and friends.

Found in a Martin High School yearbook, “Leonor plans to travel around the world. Her ambition is to be a stenographer to a lawyer.” After graduating from Martin High, she went to business school and later started her career at First Federal Savings & Loan Association in downtown Laredo, remaining there for 25 years until she retired as Secretary-Treasurer. She then continued to stay active in her community by volunteering at Doctors Hospital of Laredo Gift Shop for several years, while continuing to give her attention and love to her 3 children and to many others whose lives she touched in her own special way; and travel …she did plenty! A recent trip to California was such a memorable one for family members there. But those of us who knew Nono, we can tell you that what she enjoyed most was playing cards, especially in her final years. She and her small group of “Partners in Crime” not only enjoyed their get togethers, but also embraced their growing friendship with each new day. Thank you, “Partners in Crime”, for your love.

The Vázquez family is also grateful for the support and care received from Altus Hospice and staff, and for the at-home care from María Méndez, Ana Arragon, and Martha Maldonado.

The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, May 25, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday morning, May 26, 2023 departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Anthony Vázquez, Jonathan Vázquez, Jordan Vázquez, Alex Vázquez, Jorge Vázquez III, John Campbell, Carlos Hugo Meza, and Aldo Ortegón. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Emilio “Chito” Dávila, Gustavo Aguirre, and Gregorio “Nippy” Vázquez.
