MISS LAURENTINA VELA

NOVEMBER 18, 1926 - JUNE 28, 2016

Laurentina Vela, an educator for Laredo Independent School District for 44 years was taken by the Lord on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Laurentina was born in Laredo, Texas on November 18, 1926.

She was a loving daughter, friend, sister, aunt and will be missed by everybody who knew her.

She was a First Grade teacher at Farias Elementary School and for 15 years was Vice Principal of the school.

Laurentina was preceded in death by her father Mr. Aureliano Vela; her mother who raised her, Mrs. Irene M. Vela; her birth mother, Beatriz Martinez; her brother Roberto A. Vela, and her sister-in-law Tirsa G. Vela.

She is survived by her sisters, Alicia Vela (Juventino A., Sr.) Gonzalez, Ernestina Vela (Roberto, Sr. +) Rodriguez; her nephews, Juventino A. (Veronica) Gonzalez, Jr., Roberto (Josefina) Rodriguez, Jr., Ricardo Rodriguez, and Rene (Sandra) Rodriguez. She is also survived by numerous great nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Oscar Gutierrez and all the nurses at Laredo Medical Center who cared for her during her stay at the hospital.

The family is also very appreciative of Maria Vargas, and all other caregivers throughout her journey.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 03, 2016 from 5 to 9 in the evening at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30in the evening.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 04, 2016 departing the funeral home at 9:40 a.m. to Christ the King Catholic Church where a Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Msgr. James Harris.

Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Juventino A. Gonzalez III, Jorge Gonzalez, Roberto Rodriguez III, Ricardo Rodriguez, Jr., Rene Rodriguez, Jr., Roberto Rodriguez, and Ruben Rodriguez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Juventino A. Gonzalez, Jr., Roberto Rodriguez, Jr., Ricardo Rodriguez, and Rene Rodriguez.
