Laura Elsa Varela, born October 25, 1956 in Laredo, Texas peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday,-January 22, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.

Laura graduated from St. Augustine High School, received her Associates Degree from Laredo Junior College, and studied Nuclear Medicine at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX-(now the hospital for Texas A & M Medical School) where she completed her Bachelor of Science Degree and certified as an R.T. (R) (N) (ARRT).-She worked at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas and Radiology Associates of San Antonio before transferring to Laredo where she was head of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Laredo Medical Center.

Laura's positive demeanor and charismatic smile were an inspiration to everyone around her and a source of strength to her family.-She was especially compassionate in her care and love of animals.-She will be greatly missed.

Laura is preceded in death by her father, Carlos F. Varela, Jr. and her sister, Diana V. Saucedo.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew A. Varela and Carl A. Schreiber; her mother, Oralia G. Varela; and her sisters, Rosalinda V. (Frederick) Graves, Sylvia V. (Carlos J.) Vergara, Oralia V. (Guillermo) Salinas, Olivia V. (Arthur) Santos.-Also, Toribio J. (Patricia) Saucedo and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special note of gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff at Laredo Medical Center.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel, 1410 Jacaman Rd.

Funeral procession will depart at 10 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will then follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
