Kathleen Martinez

November 3, 1947 — July 27, 2015

KATHLEEN RUTH MARTINEZ November 03, 1947 - July 27, 2015 Kathleen Ruth Martinez was awesome! Unfortunately, for those of us who knew and loved her, she stopped being awesome early in the morning of Monday, July 27th 2015. After 67 years of a life filled with struggle, joy, pain and love she shuffled off this mortal coil to begin the next chapter of her life with God and see if all those years of teaching catechism are going to pay off. Her trip to Laredo as a young woman was meant to be a temporary departure from her home state of California but she would remain here the rest of her life after falling in love with the man who would become her loving husband of 44 years, Anastacio Martinez. Kathleen, Kit to her friends, was an avid reader of all books, a fan of musical films, (a performer at one time but always) an admirer of theater performance, someone who made killer menudo but did not eat it, and an exceptional baker. Though she only bore one child, she was mother to many as cared for several over the years helping to raise nephews, nieces and the occasional kid who wandered in off the street. She leaves behind: Tacho Martinez-her aforementioned husband, Oscar Herrera-her great-nephew and caretaker, Greg Martinez-son and bearer of her awesomeness, Jasmine Martinez-her only and therefore most beloved grandchild, The Williams Men-her brothers: Rick, John and Tim, a bunch of nephews, nieces, in-laws, friends, acquaintances, and well wishers. Her brother, Peter Williams, was there to greet her when she crossed over. The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd. where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 1704 Sandman St. There will be no procession so the family asks that mass attendees report directly to the church. Services will conclude after mass. You may express your condolences and sign the guestbook online at: www.joejacksonfuneralchapels.com Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the funeral service professionals at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Road, Laredo, Texas 78041; (956) 722-8850.
