Juanita C. Aguilar, daughter of the late Trinidad and Juanita Aguilar, passed away on May 21, 2012.

Miss Aguilar was born and resided in Laredo her entire life. She attended St. Augustine Catholic School graduating in 1937 and was awarded the first Scholarship given at that time by Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas.
She left Laredo very proud with the scholarship to attend Our Lady of the Lake College.-She attended this beautiful college four years, earning her Bachelor's in Arts degree in 1941.

Immediately back in Laredo, she started teaching in Public Schools.-She started teaching first grade at MacDonell remaining there 13 years.-In 1954, she was transferred to Bruni School again teaching first grade and continued teaching there for 20 years.

In 1974, D.D. Hachar Elementary School was built and she was chosen as one of the teachers, once again teaching first grade.-She taught there 12 years.

All through her years of teaching she loved to work with small children.-For some reason her supervisors wanted her to teach first grade and she loved it.

During her teaching years in public schools, she never forgot her early years in St. Augustine School and helped the Ursuline Sisters and students in their needs.

As for her after hours, they were spent teaching Catechism, something she did for more than 30 years.-She also participated with the church choir and other church activities.

In 1986, she finally retired after a total 45 years of teaching.

At her retirement function, she had a beautiful Thanksgiving Mass with the Sister's Choir from Our Lady of the Lake College.-The celebrant was her dear friend, the late Father Joseph Konelly, O.M.I.

45 years in all"?always in the first grade.

After her retirement, she continued to work for the Cursillo Movement, was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, A Teacher's Organization, The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and above all the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Mary Magdalene #1989.

Positions she held were:-President of the Hijas de Maria of St. Augustine Cathedral, Chairwoman of the Burse of the Oblate Seminaries, Monitor, Secretary and Regent of the Catholic Daughters and two terms as District Deputy of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She traveled a lot with this organization meeting a lot of people and learning more of their fundamental works of Unity and Charity.

Her family is very proud of her life and her career.-We thank God for allowing her to do this work.
