Juana G. Gomez (Juanita), 93, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. 

Mrs. Gomez was born on August 18, 1929 in Agualeguas, NL, Mexico to Santos Garcia and Ezequiel Guajardo.  She married the Love of her life and lifelong companion, Jose M. Gomez on January 7, 1956.  Shortly after, they left Mexico and established a life together in Chicago, IL., where they had a family of 9 children.  They eventually retired and moved to Laredo, TX.   

Her passion in life was her children!  She loved, and always looked forward to having all her family around; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for gatherings and playing “Loteria.”   Her commitment to, not only her family, but all those around her was unique.  Her laughter and amazing sense of humor will always be remembered by all who got to know her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Santos Garcia and Ezequiel Guajardo, her son Jose M. Gomez, Jr. (Maria del Carmen), her grandson John A. Avelar, and her son-in-law Lee Mynard.

Her spirit of joy and legacy will continue through her children: Tammy Guzman (Miguel), Juan A. Gomez (Maria Xochitl), Maria Villarreal (Nicolas), Graciela Rivera (Noe), Rene Gomez, Santis Orozco (Jesus), Armando Gomez (Connie), and Maria J. Mynard (Lee +).  Her grandchildren: Anahy Gomez, Miguel Guzman, Jr. (Isabel), Janette Guzman, Jimmy Guzman, Juan A Gomez, Jr., Edward Avelar, Noe Rivera, Jr. (Cecilia), Arnoldo Rivera, Salvador Orozco (Jaclyn H), Jesus Orozco, Jr., Amanda G. Gomez and Carson L. Mynard. Her great-grandchildren: Aidan Manuel Gil, Julian M. Guzman, Joseph I. Guzman, Jaelyn E. Guzman, Johnnay Avelar, Rubi Avelar, Arieana Caratachea, Edward Avelar, Jr., Everli H. Orozco, and Ella C. Orozco; as well as a host of other family and friends whose lives she touched. 

John 6:47 “Amen, amen I say to you, whoever believes, has eternal life.”

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, May 19, 2023, from 5pm to 9pm at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, May 20, 2023, departing at 8:40 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m.

All services will conclude after the mass, and a private cremation will take place at a later date.
