JUAN CASTILLO JR.
September 24, 1945 – April 4, 2019
Juan Castillo, Jr., 73, was taken by Our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 4, 2019. He was surrounded by many whom loved, honored and respected him.
At the age of 11, He started working at Neel Abstract as an errand boy and continued to work there throughout his years at Martin HS and LJC, where he earned an Associates in Arts or Science. Lovingly known as LOS JUANES, Juan married his college love Juanita in 1966 just 7 days before being drafted to serve his country. He became a Sergeant stationed in So. Vietnam as an Infantryman with Co. B 2BN 1st Infantry Bde BIG RED ONE. He was Honorably Discharged after being wounded in DA NANG where he earned several commendations including the Purple Heart, National Defense and the Republic of Vietnam Service metals and ribbons. He completed his tour of duty at Ft. Benning, GA then proceeded with the National Guard back home. Juan veered into finance as a manager with Dial Finance Co. / Norwest Financial Corp. which lead to the Internal Revenue Service. He retired with 20 years of Government Service. During his career, he continued to participate with Veteran Affairs. He was 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus followed by joining a few brothers-at-arms and generating the Laredo Veteran’s Honor Guard.
His family will forever cherish the loving husband, attentive father and loyal friend that he was. Those that knew him can attest to this. Once retired, Los Juanes traveled the world together and gave his wife an eternity of love and memories. Juan loved to garden, attend all his grandkids’ activities and watching his favorite sports of Baseball, Basketball and Boxing. His avid passion was having his family join him at church Sundays and treating the whole lot to eat after. His smile, sense of humor and hugs will be sorely missed.
