On Sunday November 24, 2019 Jose Uvaldo Moreno, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 83.
He was born on April 21, 1936 to Carmen and Gregoria Moreno in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Moreno was well known to his friends and family as La Coquena. Mr. Moreno studied for 3yrs at Laredo Junior College. Jose U. Moreno enlisted with the Texas National Guard in 1953 where he served for over 29 years. Mr. Moreno was drafted in 1961 to the U.S. Army and proudly served his country as a Sargent E-5/tank gunner. In the summer of 1965 Jose U. Moreno met the love of his life Evangelina Ruiz, shortly thereafter they were married on June 18, 1966. In 1973, together they welcomed their only child Jose Gerardo Moreno.
Mr. Moreno worked at Joe Brand men’s department for over 15yrs from 1961 to 1976. Mr. Moreno worked for the Webb County Tax Office from 1978 to 1980 and then went to work for the County District Attorney’s office with district attorney Richard Morales from 1980 to 1988. Mr. Moreno then worked for the Laredo Independent School District at his Alma Mater Martin High School. He was a member of the Laredo Veterans Coalition, Lulac Council #12, American Legion Post 59 and several other political organizations. He was an avid golfer and excellent dancer, never missed an opportunity to dance the night away with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carmen and Gregoria Moreno, his brothers: Lorenzo and Benito Moreno; his sisters: Aurora Moreno, Maria Margarita Moreno and Cecilia (Moreno) Sanchez. Brother in laws Humberto Sanchez, Julio (Gregoria) Ruiz Jr, Salvador Ruiz. Sister in laws: Teresa Olga Solis. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53yrs Evangelina R. Moreno, Jose Gerardo (Elena) Moreno, grandson Jose Gerardo Moreno II, granddaughters Ariana Victoria and Tiffany Joy Moreno. Brothers-in-law Demetrio Robert (Sylvia) Ruiz and Dr. Joe Soliz, Sister-in-law Pauline Ruiz and Angela Moreno and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank his physicians: Dr. Luis M. Benavides, Dr. Benson Huang, Dr. Nan, and Dr. Fernando Sanchez for all their medical attention and care during his time. We would also like to thank all the staff and nurses from Retama Manor West for the care given to Mr. Moreno and his family as well as Laredo Specialty Hospital for their care and support during his time.
The family received condolences on Tuesday evening, November 26, 2019 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary commenced at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held this morning, Wednesday, November 27, 2019 departing at 9:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Divine Mercy Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 59 after Mass.
Pallbearers will be: José Gerardo Moreno, Julio César Ruiz, Jordan Wise, Lisa A. Ruiz, and Cynthia Ruiz.
Cremation Services will be held at a later date.
