                                                                              JOSEPHINE GRACE RENDON RUIZ

                                                                                May 24, 1931 – September 17, 2024

Josephine “Josie” Grace Rendon Ruiz, 93, peacefully departed from this world surrounded by her family on September 17, 2024. Born on May 24, 1931, Josie was a woman proud of her heritage, which bridged continents. She never failed to mention how proud she was of her mother’s Irish blood and her father’s Aztec ancestry. Josie built her life on a foundation that her father set. He exemplified hard work and dedication through his entrepreneurial spirit with Joe J. Rendon and Sons’ Tailor Shop, and his advocacy for deaf-mutes whom he would transport to Austin’s Texas Institute for the Deaf. She continued his legacy as a trailblazer – becoming a female tailor when the norm was for women to be seamstresses. Additionally, she dedicated her time to assisting deafmutes taking them beyond Laredo to further their education.

As proponent of education – both academic and otherwise – Josie believed fervently in its transformative power, considering it the cornerstone of a fulfilling existence. She took pride in the accomplishments of all her descendants. Her love and devotion was most especially expressed towards her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly and for whom she was ever present to celebrate their many milestones. As a hardworking woman, her most fulfilling moments took place at the graduations of her granddaughters who earned doctoral degrees. And, irrespective of academic accolades, Josie’s final words were as follows “[All of my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren] have wanted to achieve God’s goals... [and he has proven to be] there and for that I thank Him everyday."
