During the afternoon of Saturday, July 31, 2021 and after a long battle with his illness, God saw you getting tired and called you to himself. We are left behind with the many memories that were shared throughout your short, but memorable life. In peace, Jose “Joe” Gomez closed his eyes and took his final breath alongside his loving family. Although he was only 39 years old, just shy of one week from turning 40, he was able to accomplish many beautiful things on this earth, such as being a hardworking father and loving husband to his wife and 5 children. He was a wonderful son and brother to his mother and 4 siblings and an even more adored and cherish son-in-law and brother-in-law. Many adjectives can describe Joe, but some of the most notable ones are: loving, giving, beloved, hardworking, charismatic, and witty.
Joe was the head chef for Aramark Food Services at Texas A&M International University for many years, working alongside his wife and brother in the different food departments and restaurants there. It was from there that an opportunity opened up as a part time Funeral Director Assistant at Joe Jackson Funeral Chapels. He took the job and would alternate working both jobs, always looking for the best way to support his family. This second job soon became his home, where he made many friends along the way and had a cherished family of coworkers.
Joe’s passion of the culinary arts was always known to all who knew him and would always arrange the different foods into a beautiful presentation, especially at funeral home functions. His strong work ethic made it easy for anyone who worked with him to know you were taken care of, most importantly in the best and right way.
As we prepare to bid him farewell, having completed his journey and mission on earth, in the words of Psalm 122: “I rejoiced when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’ And finally, our feet are standing at your gates, O Jerusalem.” May you rejoice with the company of all the angels and saints in heaven and until we meet again, may you rest in peace.
Joe was preceded in passing by his father, Francisco Gomez, Sr.; and his beloved mother-in-law, Blanca Moreno.
Left to cherish his memory are: his beloved wife of 22 years of marriage, Mayella M. Gomez; children, Jacqueline Gomez, Jose Gomez, Jr., Annabelle Gomez, Ashley Gomez, and Ethan Gomez; mother, Teresa Guardiola; siblings, Sandra (Carlos) Holguin, Francisco Gomez, Jr., Raquel (Juan) Espinoza, and Elma (Jose Guadalupe) Loredo; father-in-law, Juan Moreno, Sr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mirtha (Phillip) Hernandez, Mayra (Robert †) Fuentes, Juan (Rosy) Moreno, and Melissa (Adan) Cadena; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.
