Mr. Jose Ricardo Gutierrez, 86 years old, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away after a lengthy illness on September 1, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Pepe, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Laredo, Texas on December 9, 1926 to Teodosio Gutierrez, Jr. and Ofelia G. Gutierrez. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 23, 1945 and served 9 months of sea duty during World War II in the American Area Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Area until the end of the war.-Upon his discharge from the U.S. Naval Service after the war, Pepe began working for various Teodosio Gutierrez family businesses, and Sears, Roebuck & Company. Pepe was an avid deer hunter, all around sportsman, and was-very passionate about the local political scene until his health deteriorated to the point where it was no longer possible to enjoy these pastimes.-

Pepe was preceded in death by his parents, Teodosio Gutierrez, Jr. and Ofelia G. Gutierrez, by his brothers Adolfo Gutierrez, Armando Gutierrez, Teodosio Alberto Gutierrez, and Hector Gutierrez, and by his grandson, Francisco Javier Juarez.

Pepe will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Alicia G. Gutierrez and his seven children; daughters Sara A. Gutierrez-Perez, Diana Laura Gutierrez, Maria Ofelia (Antonio) Medina, Maria Eugenia "Quena" (Emigdio) Lugo, and Olga Irma "Gogi" Gutierrez, and sons Jose R. (Melinda) Gutierrez, Jr. and Carlos Armando (Irasema) Gutierrez.-He is also survived by ten grandchildren, being Iliana M. (Anthony) Chandarlis, Alysia Medina, Valentin (Nereyda) Perez III, Diana Laura Perez, Angela Melissa Gutierrez, Estevan Emigdio Lugo, Carlos Armando Gutierrez, Jr., Monica Alicia Gutierrez, Mateo Gabriel Lugo, and Cristian Adan Gutierrez, and three great-grandchildren, namely Valentin Perez IV, Enrique Mauro Perez, and Orion George Chandarlis.

Pepe is also survived by his sister, Ofelia G. de la Chica, and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many very special friends including Juan Manuel Canales, Jr. and Susan San Miguel.-Our family would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for the care given to our beloved Pepe by Dr. Idelfonzo Flores, and his supporting staff consisting of Irma Balderrama, Anna Ramos, and Idalia Becerra.

Pallbearers will be: Anthony Phillip Chandarlis, Estevan Emigdio Lugo, Mateo Gabriel Lugo, Carlos Armando Gutierrez, Jr., Cristian Adan Gutierrez, and Antonio J. Medina, Jr.-

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Delfino Alamo, Lucas Galvan, Eddie Perales, Romeo Salinas, and many more, including the many nephews and nieces that he was so proud of.
