Jose Javier Ramirez "JJ," 71, of Laredo, TX passed away Sept. 9, 2011 at his home with his family and friends by his side.
JJ was born Jan. 7, 1940 in Hebbronville, TX to Rafael and Adelaida Ramirez.-He was the fourth of six children.-A 1959 graduate of Raymond & Tirza Martin High School, he was married to his sweetheart Maria Luisa Vela Ramirez, of Laredo, TX for 47 years.-After graduating from Martin High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably.-Upon completion of his service he returned to Laredo and later entered the U.S. Postal Service where he continued to serve the citizens of Laredo for 39 years.-After retiring from the postal service he was an active member of the American Legion Post 59 and its honor guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Adelaida Ramirez.
He is survived by his wife Maria Luisa Vela Ramirez, his daughter Gina (Hugo) Sanchez, his son Maj. Gabriel (Marcia) Ramirez, his grandson Alejandro Sanchez, his sister Bertha Ramirez, and his brothers Rafael (Graciela) Ramirez Jr., Tomas (Marianela) Ramirez, Manuel (Sylvia) Ramirez, and Jorge (Marie) Ramirez.-He is further survived by numerous and much-loved nieces and nephews.-
Military Honors will be provided at the graveside by Fort Sam Houston Casualty Detail as well as the American Legion Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be: Tomas Ramirez, Manuel Ramirez, Maj. Gabriel J. Ramirez, Hugo L. Sanchez, Alberto Vela, Roberto Cruz Jr., Francisco Ibarra, Faustino Lopez.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rafael Ramirez Jr., Jorge Ramirez, Jose Manuel Gomez, Rudy Alvarez, Hector Donovan, Antonio H. Salinas, Alejandro G. Sanchez.
