May 19, 1957 – July 4, 2023
Jose Luis Castillo, 66, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He began playing music at the age of 15. His first band was a band by the name of Los Satanicos. The group members were Beto Ramon, guitar player and song writer and Hugo Guerrero, playing the keyboard. Later on, after 5 years he started his own band and named it Zaz y Zaz. The band members were Oscar Ramirez, Jesus Ramirez, and Ramiro Elizondo. He recorded two 45 and one LP (Tirando chancla). 8 of the songs in the LP were written by the late David Castillo and one of the main songs, “Nunca te Dejare de Amar” was the main hit. He toured in Oklahoma, West Texas. After 15 years of having his band, he joined voices with Beto Ramon and formed with his group, “Los Leones de Laredo”. The band released a CD with songs written by Beto Ramon and the song, “El Diablo esta Enojado Conmigo” was an instant hit. After 5 years he went back to his original band of Zaz y Zaz and recorded another CD entitled, “A la Brava” in which the band members included his brother, Julian Castillo, his nephew Alberto “Tito” Cedillo, Kike Tovar, and Carmen Esparza. Joe Castillo has been in the music business for 42 years and he still continues up to this day to be the lead singer and bass player for his band Zaz y Zaz.
