JOSE “PEPE” LOPEZ

AUGUST 5, 1927 – JANUARY 9, 2019

There is a time to be born, and a time to die. What greater symbol do we have on this than the caterpillar who becomes a butterfly. The caterpillar must die, but it's nothing but a moment,a second step; the step from the temporal to the eternal, as in the death of the child, the adolescent is born; so from the cocoon emerges the butterfly.

Life is going to last; life is eternal.

~ from “The Funeral” by Michael Quicist

Mr. Jose “Pepe” Lopez was born on August 5, 1927 to Mr. and Mrs. Santiago and Julia Lopez. Jose was received into Heavenly Paradise on January 9, 2019 by his Savior, Jesus Christ and by siblings: Santiago (Ester) Lopez Jr., Fernando Lopez, Francisco (Hortencia) Lopez Jr., Arturo Lopez Sr., Gilberto Lopez Sr., and Emma (Rodolfo) Sanchez.

He came from a family of 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Jose proudly served his country as a Private in the United States Army where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Upon being honorably discharged, Mr. Lopez worked various jobs in different fields. Pepe, along with his father and two other siblings, founded the Lopez Tomato Company. He proudly sold and distributed tomatoes to local HEB Grocery Stores for over 40 years. When that business closed, he and his beloved sister, Olga, created Lopez&Lopez Real Estate, LLC; which to this day is managed by their eldest brother, Oscar. Together, they began buying and investing in real estate properties. In the decades of having this company, they managed to build an impressive portfolio of properties that provide housing to many families.

Pepe will always be remembered as having a heart of gold. His biggest joy and satisfaction in life was giving to, and helping those in need. He was a contributor to many local organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Laredo and the Sacred Heart Children's Home.

Jose served the Lord faithfully at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at the Saturday 5 pm Mass. He was a wonderful son to his parents as a primary caretaker in their advanced age. Pepe could make anyone laugh with his witty and comical jokes and ways of being. He enjoyed the finer things in life. Always saying, “just charge it to my card.”

He will be greatly missed by his brother Oscar (Josefina +) Lopez Sr., and sister: Olga Lopez; sisters-in-law: Yolanda Lopez, Alicia Lopez and Minerva Lopez as well as by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives, friends and especially his beloved animals that he cared for and considered his children.

The family extends their gratitude to his long time position, Doctor Ricardo Cigarroa and the Medical Personnel that attended to him throughout his journey here on earth.

The family will receive condolences the evening of Monday the 14 th of January 2019 from 5 o'clock until 9 o'clock in the evening with a Rosary being recited at 7 o'clock in the main chapel of Joe Jackson North Funeral & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.
