Jose M. Guerra July 20, 1930 - August 18, 2015 Jose M. Guerra, 85, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Guerra was the City of Laredo Public Works Director for 25 years, then retiring in 2002. He was also extremely involved with our Government regarding presidential elections. In 1978, he was part of the Republican Gubernatorial Campaign to elect Bill Clements. Along the way he developed great friendships; a few of which included the late Attorney General John Tower and Secretary of State David Dean. He also attended the inaugurations of Presidents' Ronald Reagan, Herbert W. Bush, and George W. Bush. "Quite a man, and quite a legacy," were the words of Mr. David Dean, who also expressed how Mr. Guerra had changed Texas history for the positive and ushered in opportunities helping thousands of individuals. What an incredible life he lived, and the great legacy he leaves behind. Joe was an amazing loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Refugio Guerra and Maria A. Decker Guerra; brothers, Luis D. Guerra (POW), and Ralph Guerra; sisters, Maria Luisa Mendiola, Rose Marie Wilmes; daughter Roxanne Guerra Jimenez; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Barron; brother-in-law Lino Mendiola, and sister-in-law Clara Guerra. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Roxanna Barron Guerra; his children, Jose A. (Velma) Guerra, Zita (Fidel) "Butch" Ramirez; son-in-law George Jimenez; grandchildren, Lyle (Marissa) Jimenez, Lee Jimenez, David, Cathy, Jacob Guerra, Becky Hernandez and Adrian Polanco, Robbie (Elena) Ramirez, Tony (Kathy) Ramirez, Louis (Heather) Ramirez, Kristina (Willie) Pompa; great-grandchildren, Larissa Jimenez, Liliana and Tony Ramirez, Katelynn and William Pompa, and Joseph Ramirez; his brothers, Refugio (Martha) Guerra, Jr., Guadalupe (Irene) Guerra, Carlos (Ada) Guerra, and sister-in-law Martha Arechiga. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Francisco Pea, Dr. Adonis Zuniga- Goldwater, and his caregiver Lolita Gallegos. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Road from 5 to 9 in the evening. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7 in the evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 21, 2015 departing the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment and Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Lyle Jimenez, Lee Jimenez, Robert Ramirez, Louie Ramirez, Willie Pompa, David Guerra, Jacob Guerra, and Sam Guerra, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Dean, John Orfila, Lic. Pepe del Rivero, Joe Medina, Larry Dovalina, and Emilio Decker.
