JON VANDAM December 05, 1947 - January 08, 2014 Jon VanDam, 66, passed away Wednesday January 08, 2014. Jon was born on December 05, 1947 in Battle Creek, MI. He grew up in Climax, MI and lived in Michigan, California, Arizona and Idaho before settling down in Laredo, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Christine Popp VanDam; his daughter, Karen Gross; and his sisters, Christine Trevio and Merry VanDam. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul VanDam and Miriam VanDam Hopkins. Jon truly enjoyed life. His life adventures included working as a roadie for bands such as Beautiful Day and the Doobie Brothers, a horse trainer in Arizona, a river guide in Idaho and an independent contractor in Texas. He loved to play the harmonica and enjoyed his numerous adopted dogs and cats and his horses. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the State of Texas Kidney Foundation, National Firearms Museum or the Laredo Animal Protective Society. A life celebration will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the funeral service professionals at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., Laredo, Texas 78041; (956) 722-8850.
