Hortencia "Tencha" Sanchez Lopez
September 28, 1927 - November 30, 2015

Hortencia Sanchez Lopez, 88, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 30, 2015. She was born on September 28, 1927 in Laredo, Texas to her parents Lazaro Sanchez and Hortencia Cantu. Hortencia attended Martin High School, and then married her loving husband, Lauro Lopez, Sr.

She enjoyed spending time at the ranch with her family and her husband Lauro, Sr. Hortencia was also a wonderful cook and she took pride in creating classic Mexican dishes for her children as well as making bean tacos for her grandchildren. She definitely knew her way around the kitchen!

When she was younger, Hortencia and her sister in-law took many trips to San Antonio to watch plays and performances of different kinds. San Antonio was a fun place for her to visit. She would often go there with her husband as well. They would always travel in their signature Cadillac.

Some of Hortencia's other passions included getting dressed up and going to dinner with her husband and children. Pelican's Wharf was a common spot for them. She would consistently have her hair done nice and neat, and looked amazing all the time.

Sunday lunch was always a big deal for Hortencia. She hosted a weekly gathering where she showed off her skills in the kitchen. Her children and grandchildren were always in attendance. Later on, her great-grandchildren joined in the weekly feast. She loved to have them sit in their high-chairs next to her.

She was able to enjoy her great-grandchildren, and even took some trips to San Antonio to visit Santa. Hortencia was a lively spirit during these moments with her great-grandchildren as they never failed to bring a smile to her face.

Hortencia constantly kept busy, and she even had a personal trainer for some time while she was in her eighties. She was a remarkable woman indeed. Hortencia remained close to God, and prayed the Rosary often. She will be a valued addition into the Kingdom of Heaven!

She was predeceased by her husband, Lauro Lopez, Sr.; and her siblings, Humberto Sanchez, Raul Sanchez, Jose Maria Sanchez, and her twin brother Lazaro Sanchez.

Hortencia is survived by her brother Reynaldo Sanchez; children, Rosa Maria (Ruben S.) Gonzalez, and Lauro (Stella T.) Lopez, Jr.; grandchildren, Lauro Geronimo (Erica Judith) Lopez, Alfonso Ariel Gonzalez, Stephen Rene (Daniela Torres) Lopez, and Michael Anthony Lopez; her great-granchildren, Liana Michelle Lopez, Lauro Geronimo Lopez, Jr., Juliet Rose Lopez, Jacob Alfredo Lopez; and sister-in-law, Maria Carmen Sanchez.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to her caregivers, Eva, Dora, and Patricia as well as to her doctors, Dr. Dennis Cantu and Dr. Joe Camero who provided excellent care and attention to our mother during her time of need.

Visitation will be held on Thursday December 03, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 04, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a burial Mass.

The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
