HORTENCIA BENAVIDES
July 17, 1922 - November 18, 2015
Hortencia Benavides, 93, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.
She was born in Ramireo, Texas. She widowed at a young age and was left to care for her children. Hortencia was a woman of strong will and firm faith. She so lovingly cared for her entire family and her children were guided by her throughout their lives. God granted her many years of devotion and love to nurture her family. She was well known by the neighborhood kids as the "seora de la tiendita" as she owned and operated a little corner store on 2919 Bismark and later at 3001 S. Martin. As we prepare to say goodbye to her, we give thanks to God for the many wonderful years he blessed us with her. May she keep watch over us from heaven. Rest in Peace.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lucio Benavides; children, Rosa (Refugio) Benavides and Agustin Benavides; and siblings, Flumencio Cepeda, Pedro Molina, Maria Olivia Rivas, Beatriz Ramirez, Cijetredo Cepeda, and Maria Eliza Cepeda.
Hortencia is survived by her loving daughter, Maria Isabel (Sergio) Gonzalez; daughter-in-law, Maria de Los Angeles Benavides; grandchildren, Ricardo (Erika) Gonzalez, Sergio (Toni) Gonzalez, Jr., Rafael (Cory) Gonzalez, Refugio (Adela) Benavides, Jr., Roberto (Marisela) Benavides, Rosa Maria Benavides, Marta (Guadalupe, III.) Ceja, and Agustin (Rosa Isela) Benavides, Jr.; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Alfredo (Paula) Zepeda; as well as by numerous other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Oscar Gutierrez-Vizuet, and a special thanks to the RNs of 2D, Laura Twinem, Ambrosio Calderon, and Juanita Fernandez, including her palomita and caretaker, Susana Villarreal who all provided excellent care of her during her time of need.
The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday morning, November 21, 2015 departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to San Vicente de Paul Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m.
Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
