Mr. Hilario “Lalo” Duarte, 90, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and faithful member of the 2nd Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has gone to sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in his residence surrounded by those whom he loved.
Lalo was an entrepreneur who owned and operated his music record store Frontera Record Shop on Clark and Springfield Ave for over 15 years alongside his brother Luciano. Together, they provided the people in Laredo with the lost art of music in its best form. Lalo was a musician at heart and continued to express his talent in many ways in the city. One of his day to day activities and something he was remembered from was his music playing and entertainment at Golden Corral and special events at HEB, Dr. Ike’s and Mall del Norte.
Lalo was a beloved person who taught his family many things, but above all was faith. It was his faith that will continue to be his legacy for us that remain in this world.
Lalo started teaching guitar in 1965 and had many students from all walks of life. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love for music.
Lalo served his country as well as he did his family and his faith. He was inducted into the US Army on November 27, 1950 during the Korean War as a Photographer and Communications Specialist assigned to the 533rd Engineering Aerial Photo Reproduction Company and earned his Army Occupation Medal for his service.
He is preceded in death by his parent’s: Pedro and Julia Duarte; siblings: Bruna, Bernardo, Luciano, Isidro and Martin Duarte.
Left behind to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of love and faith are his beloved spouse of 50 years of marriage: Maria Martha Duarte; daughter and sons: Elizabeth (Freddy) Gomez; Eduardo (Jennifer) Duarte, Efrain (Nancy) Duarte; grandchildren: Ely Gutierrez, Jr., Evan Gutierrez, Edward Gutierrez, Serena Duarte, Brandon Duarte, Naomi Perez, and Efren Duarte; great-grandchild: Nathan Gutierrez; sister: Margarita (Moroni) Flores; sister-in-law: Beatriz Duarte; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held the evening of Friday the 23rd of March 2018 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 4 o’clock until 9 o’clock.
Funeral Service will be held the morning of Saturday the 24th of March 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1518 E Hillside Rd. at 10 a.m. The services will be led by Javier Juarez and Presiding President Ted Wagner. All are asked to meet at the church half hour prior to service commencing.
Procession will form and will depart to the Laredo City Cemetery for the Graveside Service.
