Helen Guerrero

April 14, 2016 — October 1, 2010

Our beloved mother, Helen Jane Guerrero, passed away quietly and with grace into the arms of our father, Rudy and her Lord on Friday, October 1st. She was 94 years young.
Helen was born in Louisville, Illinois. She lived in sixteen different states until she met a charming young man, Rudolph Buquor Guerrero of San Antonio, whom she would marry and make their home in Laredo. For sixty three wonderful years, until Rudy's death, they danced through life raising and educating six children.
Helen found herself attending PTA meetings and school programs for many years to come. Her six children were given many gifts; one of them being the love of classical music that filled their home. She served not only on the boards but also held offices for many of Laredo's civic organizations. Among them were The Laredo Civic Music and The Laredo Philharmonic. She enjoyed attending the clubs she loved, such as the Tuesday Music and Literature Club, Pan American Round Table, International Good Neighbor Council, and Sultanas of the Alhambras as well as the Laredo Heritage Foundation. Blessed with a giving spirit, Helen was an advocate for the Ruth B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center and The Laredo Kidney Foundation.
Helen taught us the meaning of giving back to the community she was so fond of. She was one of the oldest active members of the Laredo Medical Center/ LMG auxiliary volunteering in its gift shop for over 40 years.
Our mother had a tender heart and tremendous Faith. She and our father were founding members of Blessed Sacrament Church. Both raised their voices in the choir for many years. Helen was a lifelong member and served many years as an officer for the Altar Society. Faith and Family were her two greatest loves; her devotion to her church and family knew no bounds.
An avid reader and a true spirit for traveling were yet two more gifts her children inherited. Never without an interesting book at hand or reading her Bible faithfully each morning, she passed on knowledge to her children. She will be remembered for her joyous spirit and commitment.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Rudy and son Thomas Guerrero.
She is survived by her beloved children David (Patti) Guerrero of Dallas, Dr. Andre Guerrero and Dr. John Graves of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kathleen Guerrero of Amarillo, Michelle (Jesse) Martinez of San Antonio, and Melita "Gigi" (Roberto) Rodriguez of Laredo. She was adored by her grandchildren Trent (Maureen) Guerrero, Todd Guerrero, Kevin Guerrero, Kelly (Raj) Rao,
Gina (Anthony) Nicholas, Jessica Martinez, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Margaret Helen "Maggie" Rodriguez.-Also very dear to her heart are Dee Cox and Patricia Diggs. She also leaves behind brothers and sisters of California, Nevada, Tyler, and the Texas Hill Country.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to one of many of Helen's charities. Among them the Heifer International Foundation, Ruth B. Cowl Center, and Maryknoll. Our family would like to thank all those who kept Helen Jane in their thoughts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the funeral service professionals at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez; (956) 722-0001.
