HECTOR H. BARRERA
September 13, 1929 – April 11, 2017
Hector H. Barrera, born Sept. 13, 1929, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the age of 87, at his home surrounded by his beloved wife and family.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, Hector was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, who retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 44 years of service and will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, hunting, BBQing every Sunday for his family, and playing cards and dominoes with his friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Socorro, of 63 years, children, Elsa A. (Cesar Jr.) Gutierrez, Hector (Nelda) Barrera, Jr., David D. (Annie) Barrera, Della B. (Gabe Rubio) Gomez, grandchildren, Analee (Edward) Ochoa, Armando and Ariana Gutierrez, J. D. and Brandon Barrera, Joseph (Theresa) and Alex Barrera, and A. J., Daniel, and Julianne Gomez, Great grandchildren, Megan and Allison Ochoa, and Brayden Barrera, brothers, Arnaldo (Cuate) Barrera, Juan Ramon, Guillermo, Ruben, Luis, and sisters, Laura, Alba, Cristina Bustamante, sister-in-law, Belia Sandoval, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the Nurses on Wheels Hospice for their support, Buenos Dias Adult Center, and a special thanks to his caregivers, Socorrito, Gloria, and Miriam.
The family will receive guests, Monday, April 17, 2017, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017, departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass Christian Burial at 9 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow immediately at the Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Armando Gutierrez, J.D. Barrera, Brandon Barrera, Joseph Barrera, A.J. Gomez, and Daniel Gomez.
