Hector H. Garcia, Sr.-beloved husband, Father, Grandfather and brother joined the Lord in heaven on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
A native of the border, Hector was born in Laredo on August 6, 1930 to the late Manuel H. and Emma L. Garcia. Preceding him in death are his brother, Enrique and sister, Emma.
Surviving him are his wife of 53 years Altagracia, his daughter Anna Isabel (Eddie) Alvarez, his son Hector "Mico" (Leticia) Garcia, his grandsons Wayo Alvarez, Hector "Mico" Garcia III, Carlos Alvarez, Leopoldo Garcia, Jorge Alvarez and his "Princess" Carolina Garcia. He is also survived by his three sisters, Dora Silva, Angelica Garcia, and Ana Maria Knox.
A true gentleman and Scholar, Hector graduated from St. Joseph's Academy as Valedictorian in 1949 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Math from St. Mary's University in 1953. He attended the University on an athletic scholarship. He also received a Master of Science degree in Administration with a minor in Psychology from Texas A & I University in 1966.
He served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army for three years, stationed in Germany and served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Artillery during the Korean Conflict.
His resume is a long list of successes he accomplished with dedication, perseverance and enthusiasm.-In the world of business, Hector was the general partner in the H.H. Garcia Management Company, Larinco ABC, Larinco Woodlake and Larinco II, L.P. which are involved in residential and commercial rentals and other real estate and financial investments. He also served as President of Panorama Video, Incorporated dba West Express Videos and Games. He was the managing partner of Insurance Centre Partnership, He also was the managing partner in Panorama Broadcasting Company which sold its interest in television station KLDO in 1997.
A respected-scholar, Hector served three years as President of Texas A &M International University Foundation. He is also a former President of Insurance Associates and former Vice President of Inscorp Incorporated. In 1958 Hector was employed by the Laredo Independent School District, first as a classroom teacher then later as an administrator. He left his position of Assistant Superintendent for Finances to enter into the private sector in 1977.
In 1976 Hector served on the committee instrumental in the acquisition of the Ursuline School property for St. Augustine High School and served on the new St. Augustine School Board right after. He was also President of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce in 1985-1987, President of LULAC Council NO. 12 between 1965 and 1967, President of the Laredo Rotary Club from 2000-2001, Treasurer of Rotary International District 5930 in 1999, and Board member of the Border Olympics.
Among his recognitions he was awarded the "Lo Mejor de lo Nuestro" Award by LULAC No. 12 in 1994. In 1984 He was inducted into the Laredo Latin American Hall of Fame for Basketball and in 1990 was inducted into the St. Mary's University Hall of Fame for Baseball and Basketball. In 1986 Hector and his wife Altagracia were also selected as the Laredo Morning Times Couple of the Year. The couple were also selected by members of the Society of Martha Washington to portray the First President and First Lady of the Land in the 1999 Washington's Birthday Celebration festivities.
A religious man who loved the Lord, Hector and his wife Alta also served as members of the Blessed Sacrament Parish and members of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, He also served on the Knights of Columbus.-
At present he was serving on the Board of Directors at Falcon International Bank.
