Guillermo Texas

Guillermo Zuniga Jr. passed away peacefully on June 26, 2017. He was born in Laredo, Texas to Guillermo and Gloria Zuniga on November 15, 1954. He earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Zuniga was a licensed U.S. Customs Broker and a freight forwarder and President of Laredo Customs Broker until his death.

For more than 32 years, Mr. Zuniga served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Naval Reserve until his retirement as Chief Hospital Corpsman in April of 2010. While in the U.S. Naval Reserve, he served in the first Gulf War in Kuwait as well as the Gulf War in Iraq. While in service, he received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Naval Service Meritorious Medal. He also received numerous other commendations, ribbons and medals.

He is survived by his 3 children, Michelle Zuniga Pena (Mike), Jorge Luis Zuniga (Alexis) and Guillermo Zuniga, III. He is also survived by his sisters Diana Zuniga (Victor Woods), Martha Zuniga, Sarah Zuniga (Robert Johnson), Silvia Zuniga (Michael Waddell), Cristina Zuniga (Lenny Tittle), Barbara Williams (Larry), Angelique Zuniga (Brian Adams), and his brothers Alfredo aka Miles Zuniga, Alberto Zuniga (Cristella), and 2 grandchildren, Mia Michelle Pena and Jorge Luis Zuniga Jr., and the mother of his children, Evelyn Zuniga, and numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.

A visitation will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29 at Joe Jackson funeral home at 719 N. Loring Ave.

A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2219 Galveston St., on Friday, June 30th with procession from the funeral home departing at 8:40 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment with Military Honors shall be immediately following at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
