It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Graciela L. Acosta, 74, who joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with her children by her side. 

 

Graciela Acosta, a dedicated UISD educator at Newman Elementary for 34 years and recipient of the esteemed Golden Apple Award. Graciela was deeply involved in her community and cherished her faith, actively volunteering at her Parish San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She generously devoted her time to A.C.T.S, served as a catechist teacher, and ministered as a eucharistic minister. Additionally, she was a dedicated volunteer for Casa Voz de Niños, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to advocating for children in need.


She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ricardo Acosta; her parents, Ernesto Cenobio de Lachica and Carmela Kerchoffs; her siblings, Maria del Carmen de Lachica, Roberto J. de Lachica, Maria Teresa Watson, and Ernesto L. de Lachica. 

 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ricardo Acosta, Jr., Laura Veronica (Evan) Schefferine, and Ana Cecilia (Rocio) Acosta- Najera; siblings, Rosa Maria (Javier) Martinez, and Maria Carmela (†Ramon) Martinez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and sisters in Christ.

 

The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, May 2, 2024 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday morning, May 3, 2024 departing at 9 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.

 

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Laredo City Cemetery. 

 

Pallbearers will be: Ricardo Acosta, Jr., Evan Schefferine, Ramon Martinez, Jr., Ramon Ernesto Martinez, Jr., Francisco Acosta, Jr., and Marcos L. Acosta.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Carlos M.de Lachica, Juan Roberto Vidaurri, Javier Alejandro Martinez, and Ismael (Milo) Juarez. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to any of the organizations below: South Texas Food Bank (Laredo), Sacred Heart Children’s Home (Laredo), and Casa Misericordia (Laredo).
