GLORIA ZUNIGA JUNE 4, 1926 - OCTOBER 30, 2014 Gloria Zuniga passed away on October 30, 2014 from complications related to her heart. Ms. Zuniga was born in Laredo, Texas to Luis and Maria de Jesus Garza Novoa in 1926. She earned a B.A. degree in Education at Southwest Texas State College. She taught mathematics in the Laredo Independent School District for over 20 years. Gloria was very active in many civic organizations. She served as President of the Laredo Art League and as State Director of the Pan American Round Table. She was Sgt. at Arms of the Laredo under Seven Flags Rotary Club. Gloria moved to Austin, Texas in 2009 to be closer to her children. She immediately adapted to the high-rise condo life, quickly made friends, and continued to live an extremely active and healthy life. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Captain Guillermo Zuniga. She is survived by her 10 children, Diana Zuniga (Victor Woods), Martha Zuniga, (George Capps), Sarah Zuniga (Robert Johnson), Guillermo Zuniga Jr., Silvia Zuniga (Michael Waddell), Cristina Zuniga (Lenny Tuttle), Barbara Williams (Larry), Angelique Zuniga (Brian Adams), Alfredo aka Miles Zuniga, Alberto Zuniga (Cristela), 14 grandchildren, 3 great grand children, and her sister Maria (Chita) Novoa Ramos. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez. A Rosary will be officiated at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 departing Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel at 9:30 a.m. to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; 2219 Galveston St. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Gloria and Guillermo Zuniga Memorial Scholarship c/o Laredo Community College, Attn.: Angelita Nunez, West End Washington Street, Laredo, Texas, 78040, the Alzheimer's Association at 3420 Executive Center Dr. #301, Austin, TX 78731, or your favorite charity.
