Gloria R. Lugo, 75, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, February 16, 2025. 

Gloria was a woman of many talents and interests, with a deep love for reading that opened doors to endless worlds and experiences. Her adventurous spirit thrived in her travels, embracing cultures and forging connections wherever she went. She was a devoted mother, fiercely proud of her children, and a doting grandmother who showered her grandchildren with love and nurturing.

Gloria’s professional journey spanned decades; she dedicated 20 years to AT&T, where she cultivated friendships and a wealth of knowledge. Afterward, she fulfilled a long-held dream by becoming the proud owner of Espumas Cafe for 12 years, creating a cherished gathering place for the community where her culinary skills shone through in every dish. Most recently, for 17 years, Gloria brought her warmth and expertise to her role at Southwest Airlines, where she created lasting connections with coworkers and passengers alike.

A passionate cook, Gloria shared her love through her delicious meals, bringing family and friends around the table, where laughter and love would resonate. Her ability to connect with those around her made her life a beautiful tapestry woven with kindness, generosity, and compassion. Gloria leaves behind a legacy of friendship and familial bonds that will forever enrich the lives she touched.

Gloria was a cherished member of the Laredo Women City Club, where her unwavering commitment to community service inspired many. She dedicated countless hours to initiatives that uplifted and empowered those around her, becoming a beacon of hope and a voice of compassion. A devoted volunteer with Ruth B. Cowl and High Hope, she shared her time generously, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many she served. Her spirit of giving was a testament to her belief that even the smallest acts of kindness create ripples of change.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband; Jorge Luis Lugo Sr.; parents, Raul Rodriguez and Consuelo Rodriguez; sister, Raquel Salas; brother-in-law, Roberto Ramirez and Jose Luis Salas Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Gonzalo (Adriana) Lugo, Claudia Melissa (Jerry) Gonzalez, and Jorge Luis Lugo Jr., grandchildren, Selika (Jacob) Escalante, Gonzalo Lugo III, Silke Gonzalez, Jerry Gonzalez Jr., Alyssa Nicole Lugo, Liliana Noemi Lugo; sister, Consuelo Ramirez as well as numerous relatives, and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday evening, February 19, 2025 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025 departing at 9:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be: Jerry Gonzalez Sr., Jerry Gonzalez Jr., Gonzalo Lugo III, Phil Makedon, Jacob Escalante, Javier Guerra, Ricardo Garza, Jaime Villarreal.
