Gloria Jean Farmer, a lifelong educator that touched the lives of many, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014. She was born March 13, 1947, in Laredo, Texas, the daughter of Ones Carl and Angelita Cruz Farmer. Gloria Jean graduated at the age of 16 from R&T Martin High School with the class of 1963 and went on to pursue her degree at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, where she received her Bachelor's in Education in 1967. She began her teaching career in 1967 at J.Z. Leyendecker Elementary where she was the cheerleader and basketball sponsor. She then went on to L.J. Christen Jr. High, where she continued to sponsor the Cheerleaders. In 1985 to 1995, she then went on to J.W. Nixon High, where she was the Golden Spur Sponsor for 10 years. She came full circle to her Alma Mater, R&T Martin High, where she was the Student Council Sponsor. She devoted 35 years of her life to educating the young minds at the Laredo Independent School District. She was an amazing sister, aunt, friend, and an outstanding mentor to others. Gloria Jean enjoyed her retirement with her family and dear friends, traveling, gaming, and watching her Cowboys and Spurs. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ones Carl and Angelita Cruz Farmer and sister: Sandra Mae Farmer Medina. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Rafael Medina, her nephews: Ones Rafael and Carl Simon, her niece: Kimberly Angela (Alexis) Gonzalez, and her six great-nieces and nephews: Melany Nicole Medina, Ones Rafael Medina II, Gloria Gean "Gigi" Medina, Zoey Alexa Gonzalez, Sophie Mae Gonzalez and Danielle Amelie Gonzalez. Gloria is also survived by her uncle and aunt: Herb and Gloria Best, as well as by numerous cousins and friends. The family will celebrate her life with a visitation the evening of Tuesday, the 30th of December 2014 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd. from 5 to 8 with a Vigil and Rosary to be recited at 7. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated the following morning of Wednesday, the 31st of December 2014 at 10 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. All attending are asked to please meet at the church. Cremation services will follow the Mass with a private interment to be held at a later date.
