Gilberto Texas Jr.

GILBERTO A. VIERA, JR.
May 29, 1966 - December. 5, 2016

Having fought the good fight, finishing the race, and having kept the faith, Gilberto A. Viera, Jr. was called by his Creator from this earthly life to take hold of his eternal reward in heaven on Monday, December 5, 2016. After courageously battling cancer for two years, five months and surrounded by his loving family in his home, he took his last breath and peacefully departed to the enjoyments of a new and glorious life. Being the simple young man that he was, Gilberto will be remembered as the son who deeply honored and loved his mother, cherished his dear father and as the brother who esteemed greatly his beloved sister and ardently gave his all to his three brothers and brother-in-law. As a nephew, uncle, cousin and friend he touched those around him in his own quiet and unique way of uplifting others, always ready to reach out to them in whatever need they had. Gilberto will be greatly missed by his family and friends but are comforted knowing that he is now at peace in a place where tears, sickness and pain are no more.

Gilberto was born in Laredo, Texas on May 29, 1966 and was 50 years old at the time of his departure home to God. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Felipe and Victoria Sanchez and his paternal grandparents, Ismael and Margarita Viera.

He is survived by his dearest mother, who never left his side, Veronica S. Viera, his loving father, Gilberto A. Viera, Sr., his much-loved sister, Veronica Valeria V. Luna (Jorge, Jr.), loving brothers, Gerardo, Gabriel and Luis Viera. Also surviving him are the joys of his life, nephew Jorge Luna, III and nieces Victoria M. Luna and Katelynn L. Viera. His loving and faithful aunt who was with him also throughout his illness, Lupita Hale; his dearest uncle, Felipe Sanchez, Sr. (Hortencia); his beloved aunts, Adela Cruz, Alicia Viera and Margarita V. Flores, other uncles, numerous cousins and close friends.

Words cannot express the family's appreciation for the faithful, devoted and spiritual care of Msgr. James E. Harris and Msgr. Thomas Davis up to Gilberto's last hours of life. Our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Lupita Oliveros for each and every time she brought Holy Communion to him at home. The family wishes to particularly thank his primary care physician, Marissa Gonzalez, M.D. and his oncologist, Mohsen Ghadimi Mahani, M.D. for their untiring efforts to prolong his life and for their much respected healing ministry. Staff and Nurses of Altus Hospice, especially Vianca Cipriano, LVN, Mirta Mercado, RN, Laura Medina, CNA, Ramona Tobias, CNA and Blanca Gonzalez, CNA for their tender, professional and exceptional nursing care, and Deacon Alberto Brizuela for his spiritual comfort and for having stayed with Gilberto and his family up to and beyond his last breath.

To the many family and friends of Gilberto who followed him with thoughts, love and prayers through his difficulty journey, we offer our prayers of gratitude for you as we ask the Holy Spirit to bless you with everlasting grace.
