Gilberto Guadalupe Gomez, 64, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Friday, April 28, 2017. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Gilbert graduated from J.W. Nixon High School and went on to achieve his degree from UT Pan American. He taught for 34 years with Laredo ISD (LISD); he began his teaching career at Christen Middle School, where he taught from 1978-1982. He left Christen to teach Health & Physical Education at his alma matter Nixon where he stayed from 1982 until his retirement in 2012. He was a proud Mustang, and coached his students in baseball, football, and girls volleyball. Gilbert was also a realtor for over 15 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilberto Pulido Gomez.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Illeana (Alejandro) Gomez and Saralee (James) Gonzalez; mother, Andrea (Raul) Medina; long-time companion, Hilda Talamantes; brothers and sisters, Luis Antonio Gomez, Porfirio (Rose †) Gomez, Rosalinda Gomez, Armando (Anabel) Gomez, and Gloria Andrea (Joey) Herrera; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2017 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 3 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, May 01, 2017 departing at 9:40 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will be: James Gonzalez, Alejandro Pais Iriart, Armando Gomez, Porfirio Gomez, Luis Antonio Gomez, and Jorge Gomez.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family extends their utmost gratitude to his caregivers Esperanza and Irazema for the care they provided for him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital - Memorial and Honor Gifts, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
