George William Kinslow, 74, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
George was born in Syracuse, Kansas and raised in La Puente, CA. He attended Baldwin Elementary, Sparks Jr. High, and graduated from La Puente High School in 1965. He earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts from SWTSU in San Marcos in 1983.
While serving as a Staff Sergeant at Laredo Air Force Base, George met his wife, Marta, on a blind date, and they were married in 1968. They were happily married for 53 years. Their first son, Robert Joseph, was born at LAFB in 1969 followed by his siblings Minnie Marie and George William, II. After completing his tour of duty, they resided in California for ten years and moved to San Antonio, TX. In 1983, the family moved back to Laredo so that George could help his wife with his ailing in-laws. George was a dedicated educator for the Laredo Independent School District (LISD) teaching at Cigarroa High School for over 20 years. After retiring in 2003, he continued working as a substitute teacher for both school districts. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (Blessed Sacrament Chapter) and of Laredo Area of Retired School Employees Association (LARSEA).
George was an avid angler and gifted a craftsman. He always found time to fish, and to every house he owned, he remodeled. Je was also kind, generous, considerate, and funny. His generosity extended to Blessed Sacrament Church where he helped remodel the Boy Scouts hut and helped rewire his father-in-law’s old house. He also taught the Scouts how to fly fish. He was the photographer for both the Cigarroa Middle yearbook for ten years when his wife was the sponsor, and for LARSEA when he was a member of the association. He was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Divine Mercy Church. He also volunteered at Volunteers Serving the Need under Gigi Ramos.
George is proceeded in death by his parents Minnie Herren Kinslow and Elmo Kinslow.
George is survived by his doting wife Marta B. Kinslow; his loving children Robert (Gary) Kinslow, Minnie (Rogelio) Garcia, George (Jaime) Kinslow; his grandchildren Sebastian Xavier Robles, Anna Marta Garcia, Victoria Marie Garcia, Kathryn Diane Garcia, Adley Elena O’Hara Kinslow; his siblings Philip (Delana) Kinslow and Laura (Lynn) Schuler.
The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday evening, November 22, 2020 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, November 23, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to attend the Mass is asked to please meet at church.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
