MISS FRANCES QUESADA
JUNE 18, 1936 AUGUST 12, 2016
Our beloved Frances has gone to join Mom and Dad in Heaven and is now in the Arms of the Lord. She will be deeply missed by the many persons whose lives she touched including her family, friends and the hundreds upon hundreds of students she taught during her 40 years as an educator with the Laredo Independent School District (LISD).
Frances was born and raised in Laredo, and was educated by the Ursuline nuns at St. Peter's Parochial School and Ursuline Academy. She attended Laredo Junior College and earned her bachelor's degree and a master's degree at Texas Woman's University, where she later also received her supervisor certificate. During her years at LISD, she started as a second grade and kindergarten teacher and served as Federal Program Teacher Trainer, Reading Teacher, District Appraiser, District Elementary Supervisor, and at the end of her career as Vice-Principal at Santa Maria Elementary School. She was also an adjunct professor at Laredo State University, now Texas A&M International University, teaching early childhood curriculum.
She was active in many organizations, where she had the opportunity to contribute to the community. In her many years with the Auxiliary to Laredo Medical Center she served two terms as president. She was an active member of the Texas State Teachers Association/Laredo Education Association (LEA) and served as President of LEA. Frances also belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Isabella the Catholic, Tuesday Music and Literature Club, Webb County Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Las Damas de la Republica del Rio Grande, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In 2006, she was recognized for her accomplishments as an educator by being inducted to the Laredo Commission for Women Hall of Fame.
Frances enjoyed traveling and visited various locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. She particularly enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas with a special friend. She loved to cook and bake, entertain the family with her delicious lasagna dinners, and make artificial floral arrangements and scrapbooks. Her best treat was getting together on Sundays to play Poquino with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Angel Quesada and Guadalupe V. Quesada and her brother, baby Francisco Angel Quesada, Jr.
Frances is survived by her siblings: George (Bertha) Quesada, Maria R.
