FELICIANA “CHANITA” T. ABREGO
March 1, 1934 – May 6, 2020
On May 6, 2020, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and loyal and faithful servant of Christ, Feliciana “Chanita” T. Abrego, was called to her heavenly home and is now at peace having completed her mission here on earth.
Chanita was married for over 56 years to Manuel Abrego (whom she now joins after his death in 2008) and together had two beloved children, a son and daughter. At a young age, her mother encouraged her to take up a trade as a seamstress. After having moved to Laredo and establishing her family alongside her husband, our God took them to settle in south Laredo, where he eventually led them to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where both served in various capacities. Chanita served over 50 years as a Cathechist, having taught many, if not hundreds of children, preparing them for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. She was also part of the 1st Woman’s Cursillo Retreat, a member of the Adoracion Nocturna, Coro de Santa Monica, Venerable Orden Tercera Agustiniana, as well as having been a Godmother to many children in South Laredo. She indeed has left a lasting legacy and now rests in the presence of God in his heavenly kingdom.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Esteban and Rosa Maria Tovar; siblings: Homero Tovar, Guadalupe Soliz, Oralia Suarez.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Juan Manuel (Patricia) Abrego and Marissa (Eladio) Alvarez; grandchildren: Miriam (Robert) Garcia, Judith, Lorena Abrego, Daniela A. Gomez and Isabella Alvarez; great-grandchildren: Gregory and Amelia Garcia; siblings: Estela Tovar Castañeda, Maria Diamantina Galvan, Roberto Tovar, Martin Tovar, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
