Ezequiel Laurel

EZEQUIEL P. LAUREL
APRIL 29, 1935 – DECEMBER 11, 2020

Mr. Ezequiel P. Laurel, 85, entered into the presence of all the angels and saints in the heavenly kingdom on Friday, December 11, 2020, having been surrounded by his loving family and the sacraments of the church.  Ezequiel was born in Laredo, Texas on April 29, 1935 to Humberto Laurel Sr and Olivia W. Laurel.  He was raised in Laredo, attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Martin High School in the early 1950’s.

His life journey took him to become the Tax-Assessor Collector for Webb County for 25 years.  After his local career, life took him to El Paso, where he served in the El Paso Central Appraisal District for 14 years, then returning to Laredo, having been a member of the local Habitat for Humanity for 6 years.  His presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to thank his primary care physician, Dr. Adonis Zuniga-Goldwater and staff, Dr. Humberto Varela, as well as the care and attention of Las Alturas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Carol Sherwood, Habitat for Humanity Director.  A thank you in memoriam to Ezequiel’s mentor and friend, Judge Alberto A. Santos, who now is happily having a conversation with him in heaven.

Ezequiel is preceded in death by his parents: Humberto Sr. and Olivia W. Laurel; siblings:  Humberto R. Laurel Jr., Hector E. Laurel.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved spouse of 36 years of marriage: Mrs. Bebe Caballero Laurel; children: Rick (Elsa H.) Laurel, Ezequiel P. (Diana) Laurel Jr., Steven Laurel, Geoffrey (Bibi) Laurel, Laurence Laurel, Christopher Laurel, Michael Laurel, Alan Laurel, Judith Laurel, John Thomas Laurel; grandchildren:  Riley Laurel, Gavin Laurel, Sebastian Ramon, and Anakaren Laurel; siblings:  David Laurel, Diana Pentecost, Joe (Kathy) Laurel, and Rene (Mary) Laurel, as well as other numerous relatives and surviving friends.

A celebration of the Holy Mass will be offered on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 555 E Del Mar Blvd, with Very Rev. Iden Bello, J.C.L. as the celebrant.  All attending are asked to meet at the church prior to the start of the mass.

Cremation services will be held at a later date.
