Evaristo Hernandez, III, 65, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Evaristo was born and raised in Laredo. He was a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam era stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He came back to his hometown where he married his wife Irma Garza who predeceases him. He joined El Metro when he retired after 18 years of service. After his wife's passing in 2010, he met Maria Elena Hernandez while preforming his duties as a bus driver at a local Metro Bus stop. The bond they shared grew throughout his last years and up until three days before his passing, he proposed to her and they were wed at the hospital. Our dad never gave up on life, having always taken care of us and proving for us. We will miss you and ask that you look upon us from heaven. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Felix and Maria Hernandez; his first wife, Irma Garza- Hernandez; sisters, Petra Hernandez; Irene Hernandez, Raquel Hernandez; brothers, Facundo Hernandez, and Thomas Hernandez. Evaristo is survived by his wife, Maria Elena Hernandez; children, Evaristo Hernandez IV, Johnny (Claudia) Hernandez, Jason D. Hernandez, Kenneth A. Hernandez, Kevin E. Hernandez; grandchild, Jennifer Hernandez; brother, Guadalupe Hernandez; as well as numerous other loved relatives and friends. Special thanks for the tireless effort in the care and attention to the nurses and staff at the Doctors Hospital; as well as to Mrs. Rodriguez, Patient Advocate, Chaplain Toni Gamboa. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 08, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Springfield Funeral Chapels; 1900 Springfield. A Rosary will be celebrated at 7 p.m. The funeral procession will depart on Saturday, August 09, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
