Evangelina G. Canales, great woman of faith, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went on to be in the presence of God on April 10, 2011.-Evita was born on May 21, 1924 in Pleasanton, Texas and resided in Laredo for over 65 years.
She served in various charitable organizations as President of A.B.C., known as Asociacion de beneficiencia y cultura de Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. She was the founder of-"Cadena de Amor" and also opened a daycare to help indigent working women in Nuevo Laredo.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Simona Guerra of Monterrey, N.L.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, A.A. Anibal R. Canales, her eleven children: Evangelina, Argelia (Earl) Le Roy, Anibal (Ana) Canales, Jr., Enrique (Rose) Canales, Aristeo (Deborah) Canales, Abel (Rosa) Canales, Guadalupe "Lupita"", Martha (Raymond) Hernandez, Ariadna (David) Boubel, Americo, Alfredo (Ana) Canales, 24 grandchildren: David Long, Eric Long, Anibal III, Ana Laura, Araceli, Alejandro, Melissa, Enrique, Jr., Elizabeth, Erika, Aristeo, Jr., Adan, Alma, Selina, Adriana, Abel, Jr., Rogelio Salinas, Jr., Sandra Salinas, Americo Hernandez, Michelle Boubel, David Boubel, Jr., Alfredo, Jr., Angelica, Arnoldo, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Road.-
Interment followed at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In memory of Evangelina donations can be made to Laredo Shriners Club; 2020 Pierce; Laredo; Texas; 78041 to benefit the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
