... " It's your oldest fear that the love you can hear will go"...
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved mother Eva Mejia Escamilla. "Nana" as she was affectionately called by all went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday May 03,2024 at the age of 98.
She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her children Jaime Escamilla, Arlene Martinez, and Eva J. Dunn and was met in heaven by her sons Jose L. Garza and L. Roberto Garza. She is preceded in death by her parents Amado and Juanita Fuentes de Mejia, siblings Apolonio, Amado, Rafael, Manuel and Isabel Mosqueda, and her sons Jose Luis Garza and L. Roberto Garza.
She is survived by her children, Arlene (Homero+) Martinez, Jr., Eva J. and Robert H Dunn, Jaime Escamilla, Olga (Jose Luis+) Garza, and Anita Keelan (L Roberto Garza+); 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
If you wore glasses, you probably knew our Nana. She began her career at the age of 15 at Galo Optical at the heart of bustling downtown 1940 Laredo. It was there where over the years she became not only an experienced optician but one of Laredo's first woman entrepreneurs Later owning several Dietz-Mclean Optical franchises. For 17 years she volunteered as CCD coordinator at Blessed Sacrament Church, as the greatest gift she could give to our Lord was "to share her love for our Dear Lord with as many children possible". Nana also enjoyed being a part of the Laredo Border Gals Red Hat club and traveling to Lost Maples for the annual changing of the leaves in the Fall. Her Later years were spent hosting weekly prayer meetings at her home for the Instruments of Peace a group of 9 women whom she considered and loved as her daughters.
Although our mother was bedridden for a year, she was always at peace with herself and was a joy to be around. The family thanks all friends and relatives who visited and traveled to be near her. Nana taught us to be happy and her greatest gift to us was FAITH. Special thanks to St. Jude Hospice, At Your Service Home health, caretakers Irma, Alicia, Nelly and Vero.
