Our dear mother, Eva Vela Guerra, passed away December 19, 2011 at age 92 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born February 10, 1919 in Laredo, Texas, to Alberto Vela and Concepcion Trevino Vela. Her work included rewarding time spent with Richter Insurance Agency, LAFB Flight Surgeon's office, U.S. Customs, and Drug Enforcement Agency. She had a great time playing Canasta with her many life-long friends. She also enjoyed all of her Beype Club activities. And once she discovered Las Vegas, it became her destination of choice! Mom was a founding member of the Blessed Sacrament Church Altar Society and upon retirement, she became an active member of the Mercy Hospital (Laredo Medical Center) Auxiliary and served as President.
Mother shared 35 years with the love of her life , our dad Pancho, who was taken from us at the age of 63. Mom's life revolved around her family, and she and dad worked and lived to see their five children graduate from college. Eva knew and loved eight grand-children and two great grandchildren. Her children were all with her in her final moments, as she went peacefully to be with her Lord, her husband, and the many friends and family that have gone before her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francisco J. Guerra, and her siblings and their spouses Alberto and Margaret Vela, Julia and Arturo Virjan, Amelia and Juan Lopez, and Arturo Vela.
She is survived by her children, Gabriella Guerra, Frank (Leonor) Guerra, Patricia Guerra, Rick (Becky) Guerra, Eddie (Bernie) Guerra; eight grandchildren, Marco (Leslie), Pancho (Nytasha), Eddie, Daniel (Megan), Michael (Mona), Amanda, Emily and Albert; great-grandchildren, Ava Isabella and Mathew David; her longtime friend, companion, and special caregiver Cristina Ochoa; her niece, Sylvia Virjan who brought much laughter to her life. She is also survived by her in-laws Clarice Brown and Antonio Perez and many, many beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
The family appreciates the many years of quality and compassionate care provided by Dr. Adonis Zuniga-Goldwater and Dr. Michael Galo.
