Esperanza Texas

Esperanza G. Gutierrez passed away peacefully surrounded by her family early Friday morning, October 21, 2016 after a battle with pernicious pneumonia.

A life-long resident of Laredo, Texas; Pera was born on January 17, 1938. She was the last living of 10 children of Fidel A. and Gonzala G. Garcia who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her beloved son, Raul Ernesto.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Santos Gutierrez, Jr; 6 children, Santos, III, Miriam Esperanza Hollis (Clay), Jesus Enrique (Elisa), Armando Eloy and Aimee Iris Guardiola (Jason); 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Pera was a woman of strong faith and character. She was a life-long member of San Jose Catholic Church where she raised her children, taught religious education and participated in church activities over the years. She shared her love of gardening with many friends and neighbors who enjoyed the fruits of her productive lemon, lime, tangerine and guava trees as well as many other varieties of florals, herbs and succulents. She loved being out on the ranch and treasured memories of times there with her family. Her typical pets included goats, turtles, parakeets, chickens and other animal that captured her attention.

Family and friends are invited to share prayer and memories on Sunday, October 23rd, at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. immediately followed by vigil service and recitation of Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 24th at 9:00 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church, 109 N. Meadow Ave. Procession will depart the funeral home at 8:40 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
