Mrs. Elvira Rios Gomez, was granted her angel wings on August 19, 2013. She went peacefully to be with the Lord in her home.
Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she touched in some small way throughout her long memorable life. Her gentle smile, baby soft skin and her sense of humor brought so much joy to her family and friends.
Although she was very small and frail, she always gave us so much courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness in life and to keep going and she always gave us her blessings before we left. She loved her rocking chair and spent hours sitting, sleeping, singing and talking and sometimes cuddling close to those she loved and cared so much for.
Elvira Gomez was born in Salinas, Hidalgo, N.L., Mexico on August 21, 1915 to Gregorio Rios and Florinda Garza Rios. She was two days shy of her 98th birthday.
She was preceded in death by loving husband Ambrosio Gomez, Sr., her two step children: Ramiro and Rodolfo Gomez and six brothers and sisters, Gregorio Rios, Fidencia Rios Santos, Santo Rios, Presciliano Rios, Francisca Rios-and Carlos Rios.
Elvira Rios Gomez came to the United States of America looking for a better life after working hard in Mexico with her daughter Maruca. She worked hard and retired from the Paisano Girl Scout Council. She devoted much of her time and energy and was so proud to re-tell stories of her many years of service there. She enjoyed her job so much that at times she would often say "yo creo que voy a regresar a trabajar para las Girl Scouts otra vez y yo creo que si me ocupan otra vez".
She full-filled her lifelong dream of becoming a United States Citizen at the age of 75, something she was very proud of and looked forward to voting in her first Presidential Election and she did it.
She is survived and will be immensely missed by her children: Mary (Fred) Monks, Daniel (Maria) Gomez, Ambrosio (Mattie, deceased) Gomez, Jr., Olga (Ricardo) Salinas, and Linda (Rogelio) Ramirez; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; also nephews and nieces.
Mom you will always be in our hearts and we'll miss you dearly.
Special thanks to Dr. J.R. Garcia, Dr. Cesar Banuelos, nurse Jeannette, therapist Melissa and her caretaker for many years Socorro Hernandez.
