Elva Roach Hines

September 11, 1927-August 8, 2021

Elva Roach Hines, 93, of Laredo, Texas, entered into eternal rest of natural causes on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Elva Roach Hines was born in Hebbronville, Texas on September 11, 1927.  She moved to Laredo with her mother and attended Martin High School.

Elva married Roque William (Willie) Hines.  During these years Elva was an at home mom.  She was a very strong woman, full of love for her family and friends, always putting them first.  Elva was a lady who never forgot a birthday or a holiday.  She always stayed in touch through letters and cards.  She started her first job away from home with Jackson Funeral Home (downtown).  At the end of her workday, she would make her way over to Altagracia Azios Garcia Dance Studio where she played the piano for all the dance classes.  She was affectionately known as Mimi Hines by generations of students.

Elva and her husband retired and moved to the family ranch in Hebbronville.  They led a Christian life.  She continued to show her love for friends; easily making new friends.  Elva always made herself available for anyone that needed transportation to and from doctors’ offices, in and out of town.  Upon her husband’s death in 2005, Elva moved back to Laredo.

Elva is preceded in death by her husband, Roque William (Willie) Hines and her parents James Carlos and Esther B. Roach.

Elva is survived by her children, James K. Hines, Roque W. (Laurin) Hines, Jr. and Martha Elva Hines McCarthy; grandchildren, Marion Ashley (Ruben) Hines Gutierrez, Angela Marie (Nino) Hines Ramos, Lindsay Marie (Elliot) McCarthy McConnell, and Courtney Ann McCarthy.  She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren ranging from ages 24 years to 10 months.

A memorial service and visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd. Pastor Mike Barrera, longtime friend of the family, will be officiating a memorial service at 7p.m.

A private burial service will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, for immediate family only.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Luis Benavides, Nurses on Wheels, and her caregivers Betty (3 years) and Gloria (7 years) for all their love and care.
