MARCH 6, 1928 – OCTOBER 15, 2016

Elsie T. Mery, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Elsie was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on March 6, 1928. After living in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for several years, she grew up in Brooklyn, New York, then moving to Los Angeles, California. While on their travels to visit relatives in Saltillo, Mexico her family decided to settle in Laredo, Texas.

Once settled in Laredo her parents opened La Casa Blanca, Inc., a dry goods clothing store where she managed and then became owner and operator with her husband Salim.

She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Abraham Carim Mery, born from Lebanese immigrants; her parents, John M. Talamas, born in Brooklyn, New York and Evelyn Mansour Talamas, born in Bethlehem, Palestine.

She is survived by her loving children, Kerim (Donna) Mery, William “Billy” Mery, and John Mery; grandchildren, Angelica Zaizaff and Abraham Karim.

She was affectionately known as “Mamacita” and cared and loved all who came across her, and no one left her presence hungry or without food to take home with them.

Visitation will be held Friday morning, October 21, 2016 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a Rosary at 11:00 a.m. The procession will follow immediately at 11:40 a.m. to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Holy Mass at 12 noon.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thanks to “Daddy”, Veronica Castro and Ivan Punski, and also extend their gratitude to all her physicians that attended to Mamacita with Tender Loving Care.

Mrs. Mery will be greatly missed and remembered by all of whom were blessed to have known her.
