ELIZABETH ANN "CHABELA" LEYENDECKER GAULT Heaven just added an angel. Elizabeth Ann "Chabela" Gault, 100, passed away in Laredo, Texas on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at her home of over 60 years. Chabela, as she was known to her friends and family, was born at her family home on San Bernardo St. on April 15, 1914 to the late Thomas Aquinas Leyendecker, Sr. and Maria Micaela Bruni. She was a life-long resident of Laredo with deep roots in the community. She was a direct descendent of Don Tomas Sanchez (founder of Laredo), Don José de Urrutia (Spanish explorer and Captain of San Antonio de Béjar Presidio), Patrick Henry (American Revolutionary War Patriot) and Don Juan Perez de Oate (The Last Conquistador), just to name a few. She is preceded in death by her parents: Thomas Aquinas Leyendecker, Sr. and Maria Micaela Bruni; her husband: Andrew McPhail Gault, Sr.; her maternal grandparents: Antonio M. and Consolacion (Henry) Bruni; and her paternal grandparents: John Z. and Juliana (Benavides) Leyendecker. She is also preceded in death by her sister: Mary Josephine Guajardo and brother-in-law: Augusto E. Guajardo; brothers: Thomas A. Leyendecker, Jr. and sister-in-law: Jennie Lynd (Lang) Leyendecker; Anthony M. Leyendecker and sister-in-law: Maria (Trevio) Leyendecker; and Fred M. Leyendecker; her great grandchildren: Will Hope Walther and Moriah Faith Walther; and her dear cousin Louise Leyendecker Longoria. Chabela is survived by her son: Andrew M. (Konnie Boeger) Gault, Jr. of Santa Barbara, California; daughters: Grace Marie Gault of San Antonio, Texas, Christine Bruni (David) Novicky of Parma, Ohio along with their children, Jason David (Sara Bender) Novicky of Parma Heights, Ohio, Leah Michelle (David K.) Severson of Canton, Ohio and Maria Christina (Benjamin J.) Walther of Canton, Ohio; son: Arthur Thomas (Stephanie Pichot) Gault along with their children, Joshua Thomas Gault and Justin Charles Gault, of Austin, Texas. Chabela also leaves behind thirteen great grandchildren: Mallory Lynn Bender and Jonah Thomas Novicky; Ella Christine, Rylie Theresa, Caden Paul, Bernadette Elizabeth, Jacob David, and Caroline Michelle Severson; Hannah Grace, Michaela Joy, Helena Mercy, Gemma Charity and Benjamin Joseph Walther. She is also survived by her sister-in-law: Minerva Tijerina (Fred) Leyendecker, and many more loving relatives and friends. Generosity was one of her grand attributes that was instilled in her family, friends, and those in need; and will be missed immensely by all who knew her. She was a member of many Civic and Charitable organizations throughout her life, including Easter Seals and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Chabela was also instrumental in the founding of Bethany House in downtown Laredo, working with Father McNaboe and eventually joined with her siblings to donate the building for the Bethany House Ministry of feeding and clothing the homeless of Laredo. A special thanks to Nurses on Wheels, and Dr. Jesus Pineda for their attentive care and services. Also, a very special thanks to Betty Reyes, Maria Garza, Cristina Lozoya, Maria Luisa Reyes, and Frances Reyna for their many years of devoted care given to our loving mother. A private service was held for close family on Saturday, October 25, 2014 where internment followed at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
