ELISEO VALDEZ SR. AUGUST 16, 1923 - DECEMBER 16, 2013 Eliseo Valdez Sr. a World War II veteran who so proudly served his country in the United States Navy was called by the Lord on Monday Dec.16, 2013. After serving his country and marrying the love of his life Lucinda Valdez, he took great pride in working tirelessly all his life as a strong labor leader with the AFL-CIO. As a labor leader in our community, he organized two of the biggest strikes in Laredo for fair wages, better working conditions and better benefits. His legacy as a strong labor leader will long be remembered by all the lives he helped make better. To his children and grandchildren he was bigger than life and totally fearless. Although far from perfect, in our own minds and hearts he has always been our hero. He leaves a big void in our hearts, but the comfort that we have is that we know he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and because of that we will meet and rejoice with him in heaven someday. Mr. Eliseo Valdez, Sr. is preceded in death by his parents: Enrique and Angelina Valdez, Sr., and his brothers: Enrique, Jr., Jose Alberto, and Jose H. Valdez. He is survived by his loving wife: Lucinda Valdez; loving grandson: Servando (Rommie) Iruegas; brother: Valentin Valdez; sisters: Octavia Martinez, Olivia (Enrique) Villanueva; children: Former City Councilman Eliseo (Rosario) Valdez, Jr., Judge Danny (Mary) Valdez, Geraldine (Former City Councilman Alfredo) Agredano, and Rudy (Leticia) Valdez; loving grandchildren: Gabriel (Julie) Valdez and Joseph Valdez, Maribel Valdez and Danny Valdez, Jr., Lorena (Marco Antonio) Tijerina and Lucy, Alfredo, Jr., Frances, Marco Antonio, Selina, and Ysenia Agredano, Christopher Valdez; great-grandchildren: Zoe and Gavin Valdez, Jillian L. Iruegas, Mia and Rene Rodriguez, Marco Antonio, Gladys, and Miguel Angel Tijerina, and Ashton Agredano. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
