Efrain Orta, Sr., 86, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 31, 2014. First and foremost, Efrain was an amazing brother, father, and grandfather. Among his many qualities he was a thoughtful and giving man with a big heart. His family and children came first and he'd drop everything when someone was in need. He was originally from Port Arthur, Texas and served in The United States Army's 2nd Armored Division a.k.a. "Hell on Wheels" before working in the oil refineries for over 25 years. He had a love for traveling which gave him the opportunity to live in San Antonio for a few years, until moving back to Laredo in 2006 to be closer to his children. Frank was a faithful Catholic and enjoyed visiting different churches during his travels. He was the Houston Astros #1 Fan and you knew the Astros were playing because his "advice" to the players echoed throughout the house. He was not a man of "good byes" and with this we say, Pops By Orta children We'll always remember that great big smile, that caring heart, that fatherly love, you always gave us. Always by our side no matter what. We will always remember you Pops because they'll never be another one to replace you. This is not a "good bye" but as you'd say a "see you later" and safe travels on your next journey. Mr. Orta is preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Ana Maria Orta; brothers, Gonzalo, Leonardo and David Orta; and Companion, Mary Quiroga. Surviving him are his children, Elisa Ramirez, Jose Carlos (Rosario) Orta, Sylvia (Vic) Gray, Efrain Orta, Jr., Mario (Elizabeth) Orta, Luis (Rebecca) Orta, and Margarita Orta; mother of his children, Elisa Gutierrez; Brothers Roy, Jose, and Ruben Orta, and sister Carmen Orta as well as 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren The family will receive condolences on Thursday, April 03, 2014 from 12 noon until 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 04, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The funeral procession will depart the chapel at 10:40 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will then follow at the Laredo City Cemetery.
