DR. ROBERT KELLEY MADDOX
November 19, 1940 - November 15, 2016

Dr. Robert Kelley Maddox, 75, of Laredo, Texas, passed away on November 15, 2016. Bobby was born November 19, 1940, to H. Edward Maddox, Jr., and Virginia Kelley Maddox. He grew up in Houston, graduating from Lamar High School in 1958. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1964 and received his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1965.

Bobby married Joanne in 1965 in Laredo, Texas. They were married for fifty-one years; their love is everlasting.

Bobby completed his general surgery residency in 1970 at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston and served then two years as a Major in the US Army stationed in Seoul, Korea and Savannah, Georgia. He began his medical practice in Laredo in 1972. He was admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1976. Bobby served Laredo as a general surgeon for forty years. He touched many families with his life-saving hands.

He shared many travels with Joanne and friends and family. Most loved were countless days in the brush country. Along with birding and hunting for dove, quail, and whitetail deer, he hunted interesting plants and Native American artifacts, amassing a pleasing collection of cacti and arrowheads. We share many fond recollections at Joanne's beloved Barrocito Ranch and many other South Texas destinations.

Bobby joins in eternal rest his father H. Edward Maddox, Jr.; mother Virginia Kelly Maddox; brothers Dr. H. Edward Maddox, III, and Jack Kelley Maddox; and in-laws Fred M. Bruni, Anita G. Bruni, and Dr. Fred M. Bruni, Jr.

Bobby is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Joanne Bruni Maddox; sons Robert Bruni Maddox (Jana) and Edward Frederick Maddox (Adriana); grandchildren Edward Henry Maddox, Alexandra Benavides Maddox, and Leslie Bruni Maddox; and many nieces and nephews. He had a life well lived and will be missed by all who knew him.

A special thanks to Doctors Hospital of Laredo Med 1 Unit and Intensive Care Unit and Drs. Reynaldo Godines, Jose R. Garcia, Manuel Gonzalez, Raphael Deliz, Carlos Espinoza, and Pedro Diaz for their care during his final illness.
