DR. BERTA Z. GALVAN

March 16, 1944 – January 13, 2023

Dr. Berta Z. Galvan, 78, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Berta met the love of her life, Lucas Galvan and together were wed for twenty-six devoted years. She gained her formal education from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas; where she obtained her Doctorate Degree. She returned to her hometown of Laredo, and worked for the Laredo Community College for over twenty-four dedicated years. At LC, formally known as LCC, she initiated the Child Development Program where she served as chair of her department and taught for her tenure. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in passing by: her parents, Juan and Julia Zavala; and her brother, Juan Zavala, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are: her loving husband, of twenty-six years, Lucas Galvan; brother, Arturo (Rosario) Zavala; sister-in-law, Maria Elena Zavala; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, extended relatives, and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, January 20, 2023 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Followed by a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday morning, January 21, 2023 departing at 9:40 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Arturo Zavala Jr., Alonzo Zavala, Javier Zavala, Sixto Zavala, Pedro Galvan, Daniel Galvan, and Ramon Galvan.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to: Dr. Luis Benavides and all the staff in Nurses on Wheels.
