DORIS ANN KARABANOFF LOHMER October 16, 1947 - December 03, 2014 Doris Ann was called by our Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd 2014 at Coronado Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio, Texas. Doris Ann was born in Laredo, Texas and was a lifelong resident of Laredo. Doris Ann graduated from Martin High School and attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas where she received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in the field of education. She devoted her life to education and was an educator with the Laredo Independent School District; she was a special education resource teacher and then became a Diagnostician in 1976. As a diagnostician she was a strong advocate for parents and students with disabilities and continued her work until she retired in 2004. Doris Ann was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother to her family. She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for a number of years as her sons were growing up and volunteered with Special Olympics when at LISD. Doris Ann enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her family and traveling when she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nickolas Jr. and Anita Karabanoff; and her brothers, Nickolas Karabanoff, III and Michael G. Karabanoff. She is survived by her husband, Ben Joseph Lohmer; her children, Ben Joseph (Liliana) Lohmer, Jr., Jon Nickolas (Angela) Lohmer, Jarie Anae Lohmer, Jay Michael (Marina) Lohmer, Jennilyn Kae (Salvador) Salinas, and Jared Kyle (Emily) Lohmer; as well as her brothers and sisters, Josephine Karabanoff, Kenneth (Olga) Karabanoff, Lucy (Derly Jr.) Gutierrez, Kathleen (Benigno Jr.) Rodriguez, Paul (Marcy) Karabanoff, and Thomas John (Nora) Karabanoff and her sister-in-law, Mary Karabanoff (spouse of Nickolas III). She is further survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8th 2014 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Rosary will commence at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday morning, December 9th 2014 where funeral procession will depart at 8:45 a.m. from Joe Jackson North to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
