Our loving mother, Deroza Trevino, 95, was called by the Lord to her resting place in heaven on April 9, 2018. She was born February 9, 1923 to Jesus B. and Juliana A. Cantu.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jesus B. and Juliana A. Cantu, and her brothers Pilar R. and Jesus B. Cantu.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years Humberto Trevino, and her children; Humberto Trevino, Jr., Jesus David Trevino, and her loving daughter Sara Alicia Coffman (Floyd), grandchildren; Elizabeth Trevino Garcia (Rocky), Sixto Lopez (Robbie), Melissa Morales (Roy), Tito Trevino (Leah), great-grandchildren; Brandon and Alyssa Morales, Brianna, Nicolas and Amanda Lopez, Grant and Ella Garcia, and Teddy, Elliott and Julie Walsh.
It is also fitting that we acknowledge and gratefully thank Dr. Gilberto Garza-Lozano and Dr. Zuniga Goldwater and to Altus Hospice and their nurses and aides for their excellent care and attention to detail they exemplified by making our mom’s quality of life more comfortable especially in her late life. I would also like in particular to acknowledge three of our caretakers that were with her every single hour of every single day for over two years, Martina Munoz, Emma Martinez and Susie Carrillo. Their dedication and the love they fostered towards our mom and dad cannot be measured by any standard. We will miss and remember them and will always have a special place at our table anytime.
Many may remember our mother when she worked in the retail sector where she built a reputation among her clients as someone that would greet you with a smile and made you feel welcome and valued not only as a customer but as a friend first. She dropped out of school early to care for her ailing mother, but never lost the desire to complete her education. It was this inspiration that encouraged her to obtain her GED of which she was very proud. She carried her diploma proudly and as a result began working with LISD as a librarian until her retirement. She enjoyed her friends tremendously, especially when they would all get together to play poquino. She was also involved with the auxiliary unit as a volunteer at Laredo Medical Center until she could not physically fulfill her responsibilities any longer. She will be missed by all that ever worked with her or whose path she crossed when providing comfort to patients.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 5 to 9 in the evening at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez; with a Rosary at 7 in the evening.
